This course will provide the learner with a comprehensive overview of the types of U.S coin and currency that s/he will encounter when handling money on the job. The learner will be able to identify and understand the importance of the individual features that appear on U.S. coins and banknotes. After completing the program the learnerwill be better prepared to:

• Detect damaged, mutilated and counterfeit coins and currency.
• Follow the appropriate procedures for handling currency at the organization.    
• Understand the security features of U.S. banknotes and recognize their importance in protecting the organization and its customers from money laundering and counterfeiting.

Course Topics

T1. Coin and Currency: This topic will introduce the learner to different coins and notes, with points discussing the handling of damaged or mutilated coins or currency.

T2. Counterfeit vs. Genuine: This topic will discuss the various features of U.S. coins and currency so that the learner may better detect a counterfeit.

T3. New Series Currency: This topic will educate the learner on the many and varied security features of the 1996-2003 series and the redesigned 2004 series, including watermarks, security threads, micro printing, and more.

T4. Handling Currency: This topic will outline appropriate steps for counting, strapping, and rolling coin and currency, and provide information on hygienic practices when handling currency.
