Right to Financial Privacy Act

This course will introduce the learner to the Right to Financial Privacy Act (RFPA) and the provisions it establishes. The course will also discuss the relationship that the Act has in regard to the financial institution and the requirements that the institution must follow. After completing this program, the learner will understand:

• The purpose of the RFPA.
• When an institution can officially release a customer's records.
• Exceptions to the types of information an institution can release without a specific request or customer consent.

Course Topics

T1. Right to Financial Privacy Act: This topic will familiarize the learner with the Right to Financial Privacy Act, which protects the customer's financial privacy from government use, and will also discuss customer authorization, written requests, summons, and more.

T2. RFPA and the Institution: This topic will clarify the institution's responsibility to comply with official orders from government agencies, and will discuss the six classes under which exceptions may fall.
