Gramm Leach Bliley Act

This course will provide the learner with an introduction to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and its various aspects regarding information privacy and security. After completing this course, the learner will understand:

• The history and specific purposes of the GLBA.
• What the privacy rule is.
• What the safeguards rule is and what it does. 

Course Topics

T1. Introduction to the Gramm Leach Bliley Act: This topic will introduce the learner to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act by explaining the Act's purpose and the ways in which it pertains to information privacy and security.

T2. History of the GLBA: This topic will familiarize the learner with foundations and inception of the GLBA.

T3. Purpose of the GLBA: This topic will familiarize the learner with the purpose of the GLBA and its relationship with various entities, including financial institutions, consumers and customers, and the Federal Trade Commission.

T4. The Privacy Rule: This topic will familiarize the learner with Regulation P, or the Privacy Rule, and the requirements that it institutes for financial institutions' treatment of nonpublic personal information.

T5. The Safeguards Rule: This topic will familiarize the learner with the Safeguards Rule and the ways in which the financial institution must comply with it in order to protect customer information.
