This course has been adapted for Credit Unions and will introduce and define anger to the learner. The course will familiarize the learner how to manage anger and how anger affects thinking. Upon successful completion of this course, the learner will have a solid understanding of the following:

  • How to communicate better.
  • How to taking control.
  • The different types of behavior.

    Course Topics:

    T1. Defining Anger: This topic will provide an overview of dealing with and managing anger, information on the five dimensions of anger, the physical effects of anger on the body, and healthy strategies for coping and dealing with anger.

    T2. The Components of Anger: This topic will provide an overview of the two-step process of anger, physical and emotional reactions to anger, the actions that angry behavior elicits, and trigger thoughts.

    T3. How Anger Affects Our Thinking: This topic will provide an overview of how anger weakens memory, creativity, and concentration, how slanted thinking distorts perception, how magnifying fosters distorted thinking, coping with destructive labeling, and how imperative thinking creates anger.

    T4. Effective Communication: This topic will provide an overview of how the Four-Step Message is effective when giving feedback on someone else's behavior, how to adequately state feelings, how to listen effectively, closed and open questions, and the importance of gestures.

    T5. Types of Behavior: This topic will provide an overview of the characteristics of aggressive behavior, manipulative behavior, and passive behavior.

    T6. Be in Control: This topic will provide an overview of how to attain and maintain positivity, how to deal with troubled people, dealing with challenging people, and how to deal with angry people.
